What's Helping My Happiness

As mentioned before, I've found that exercise has really helped with boosting my mood and making me feel physically and mentally stronger, but I also wanted to go into what else I’ve done to help. I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while, but my blogs are quite organic as to what I write each week. I’ve been making a real effort to spend my time more productively I’ve been reading more in the evenings before bed. This has a two-fold effect of not looking at my phone before I go to sleep, which in turn helps me sleep better. I’m currently reading Untamed by Glennon Doyle and it’s certainly make me think about lots of different things in my life, definitely worth a read! Using my artistic skills and trying to do more painting (I actually studied art and did a sculpture degree) has also been a focus, mostly watercolour for the moment as it’s quite quick to do. But I might try using some of my fancy felt tip pens I bought a few years ago and see what else I can do. I thi...

Personal Styling: What’s Happening

As you may have noticed, for a while now I have not posted a lot on how my personal styling business is going. The truth is it’s been put on the back burner for a little while.  The previous couple of months have been difficult for me, I just couldn’t seem to concentrate on building my business when I was (and still am) dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety from my old job that I lost at the beginning of lockdown. That and the fact that I’ve been in a new job for a couple of months now, and while it is only part time, it’s every day (I miss having a day off in the week!) and I’ve recently upped my hours until Christmas. Who doesn't need extra cash at the moment! I've also been wondering if now is the right time for this business, people aren't going out at the moment (man I miss going out!) and probably not spending any money either. Writing this down, it all looks like excellent excuses/delay tacktics for not pushing on with the business, and I agree, but for me I know ...

A Change

I know, I know, I've been crap at doing the blog, yet again! I need to get into a better habit of writing it, maybe set aside a certain time and day to do, but in my heart of hearts I know I'm not that organised. If you saw my instragram post the other day, you'll know I've been pretty absent on there too. I just couldn't face posing for a picture each day, I'd make the effort to get dressed in nice clothes, but I couldn't face doing a smile when I wasn't feeling it (see above photo for a very forced smile, which I couldn't bring myself to use). I had a difficult time couple of weeks, as I'd mentally preppared myself to be in a different situation, but an email pulled me back to where I didn't want to be and I found in hard.  However, over the last few days I noticed a change in my attitude. An email I sent made me feel like I had some control back and I've just felt more confident. It could also be the fact that I've been doing exe...

The ‘NEED’ to Buy

One thing I’ve found with all my time spent scrolling Instagram over the last 9 months+ is that I’ve felt or feel the ‘need’ to buy stuff, or maybe it’s just me? It’s constantly on your feed, the clothes people are wearing, what they are using to decorate their houses, you look at what they have, and you want it for yourself. I’m constantly seeing a lot of the influencers with similar items and think to myself, I must have that in my wardrobe! Maybe to feel like you are living part of their life that seems so perfect, maybe it’s that instant buzz that buying something gives you or maybe you feel the need to keep up with the instant trends/fashion. Doing my daily outfit posts, I’ve certainly felt the pressure to have new things to show people, to stay current and fashionable. Over lockdown and beyond I’ve been ordering new things, not necessarily keeping all of it, but I’ve certainly kept a few. However, the pressure to be up to date and fashionable is simply not viable for me...

Challenge Week

So, I had a blog already prepared for today at the beginning of the week, but after my styling challenge this week I thought it best to talk about that instead. My gorgeous friend Danielle came up with the idea of having my husband choosing my outfits for the week. While I was a little nervous of what he would choose, usually he has a good sense of style. Monday started off quite smart, I certainly liked the choice of boots as I haven’t worn them yet. Tuesday was a much more casual affair and definitely within my comfort zone for working from home.   Wednesday was one of my favourites, pairing a lacy top with high waisted straight leg jeans and the boots from Monday. Had lots of lovely comments about this one.   Thursday my husband decided to pass the responsibility to our daughter (think he’d already gotten bored with picking my outfits! To be fair it's most people struggles, including mine!). As he announced this, I knew she would pick my sparkly skirt, altho...

Too Much?

It felt good to get my feelings out last week and it was much easier expressing those feelings in written words than speaking them. However, once I'd posted it, it got me second guessing myself and sharing those feelings. Should I not have laid everything out there? Especially as I use this platform for building my business.  I know I'd already spoken about how I was finding things tough in another post, and I would have loved for those things I suggested to help myself to have worked. Some had helped, but at the time of writing my last post I was in the deepest of my stress levels, and doing those things didn't even enter my mind. Did I share too much? Did I come across as narcissistic, seeking attention and wantying people to ask if I was ok? I hope not, that certainly wasn't my intention. I'm hoping it came across as I intended, an honest reflection of my feelings at the time. After all this blog is about my journey as a Personal Stylist and that journey is goi...

Sorry, I’ve been slacking!

So, I’ve been really neglecting my blog recently and the one thing they say about doing a blog is being consistent. Something that I haven’t been for about a month or so and for that I apologise. My mind has been focused on other things this last month. I’m still having to deal with some very stressful things regarding my old work (most of the stress comes from me not being as organised with stuff as I wish I had been), other personal stresses and I also started my new job in the middle of September. I’m so pleased with my new job doing admin, it feels good to earn my own money again (which all helps during this crazy time), all of my colleagues are so lovely and I get to work from home for the moment until we are able to go back to the office. Although I have had to get used to working 5 days a week again (albeit part-time), so need to get better at organising my day around it. Sadly, the urge to write the blog was lacking as I haven’t had any clients recently and thought th...
