Challenge Week

So, I had a blog already prepared for today at the beginning of the week, but after my styling challenge this week I thought it best to talk about that instead.

My gorgeous friend Danielle came up with the idea of having my husband choosing my outfits for the week. While I was a little nervous of what he would choose, usually he has a good sense of style.

Monday started off quite smart, I certainly liked the choice of boots as I haven’t worn them yet.

Tuesday was a much more casual affair and definitely within my comfort zone for working from home.

Wednesday was one of my favourites, pairing a lacy top with high waisted straight leg jeans and the boots from Monday. Had lots of lovely comments about this one.

Thursday my husband decided to pass the responsibility to our daughter (think he’d already gotten bored with picking my outfits! To be fair it's most people struggles, including mine!). As he announced this, I knew she would pick my sparkly skirt, although I had no idea that she would put it with my tie-dye jumper and my favourite trainers that I got for my birthday. To say I was a bit embarrassed to do the school run was an understatement! I certainly got some funny looks, my mum thought I looked ridiculous and the delivery driver had a good laugh!

However the thing I noticed, was that if people saw me, even if they thought I looked silly (I was told I looked like a princess and mermaid, by grown ups!), at least they were smiling. It certainly made me smile, especially later in the afternoon when the sun caught my skirt and made a glitterball effect in the home office. I even did a few shimmies ;)

Friday was back to a casual look again and Saturday was more of the same (didn’t get a photo of that one).

My one take away from this week was that I loved getting a bit dressed up, it really helped put me in the right frame of mind for tackling the day. Even if things were thrown at me during the day, having someone making a nice comment about what I was wearing (or your very own gillter ball skirt), went a long way to boosting my mood.

Personally, I think everyone should let their kids dress them for a day, you’d be surprised how your kids see you and how fun it can be. My daughter said, of the outfit that she picked for me, that I looked ‘majestic’ and who doesn’t want to feel like that!

Have a lovely week.

The Toughest Week

So I usually post on a Sunday and I had something all written out, but after I got the hubby to check it over (like I usually do) he said it seemed a bit more random than my usual stuff. I think the reason for that was because I normally write about what's happened to me that week and this one was different, so I've scrapped it for now and written about what's really been going on. If you’ve read my blog from the start you’ll know that I lost my job at the beginning of lockdown, I believed I was unfairly dismissed and I’ve been dealing with the fallout from this since April last year. I had to to hire a solicitor, it went to ACAS (a kind of mediation service that you have to go through to try and resolve the issue) and then finally to tribunal, which I had over 2 days last week. It’s been a very tough 9+ months and I’ve documented some of my struggles on here, albeit without much detail. But the last few months and especially this last week have been the hardest. My anxie...

Wardrobe Edit - Forgot to post this!!

So this week (actaully early Sept as I completely forgot to post this blog) I did the wardrobe edit for a lovely new client, who wasn’t happy with her wardrobe at all and wanted to feel more confident in herself and what to wear. We went through all of the items in her wardrobe, getting her to try them on and discussed how the fit was or wasn’t working for her body shape. She had fallen into the trap of wearing baggy clothes to hide the parts she didn’t like, however this just gives the illusion of making you bigger than you are. Once I had pointed out what this was doing to her shape and how she looked, we went through the clothes so quickly as she now knew what to look for and we got rid of a LOT of clothes!! Knowing how to dress for your shape can make all the difference, you might think you are hiding your problem areas, but you could be making the area more obvious. By accentuating your best features you are already drawing attention away from the areas you feel less happy...

That Warm Fuzzy Feeling

I’ve always found immense joy in finding things that people love, shopping for the perfect gift for someone’s birthday or Christmas and the excitement of watching them open it and (hopefully) liking what I have bought them. This love of finding things for people was perfect for when I worked in retail. I worked in a beautiful jewellery shop (Tyler Jenkins in Swansea) which was such a great place to work, as they let me use my creative side by allowing me to design some of the displays and I ended up knowing what was in the whole store! If people came in looking for ideas of what to get someone, I would ask them a few questions about who the gift was for and go around the shop pulling different things out for them to look at, mostly it was items they hadn’t even noticed. I also worked in a clothes shop (selling the Bench, Hooch etc) in Cardiff, where the womenswear section was in the basement, so mostly you were on your own down there. When customers came downstairs, I couldn’t help c...
