Too Much?

It felt good to get my feelings out last week and it was much easier expressing those feelings in written words than speaking them. However, once I'd posted it, it got me second guessing myself and sharing those feelings. Should I not have laid everything out there? Especially as I use this platform for building my business.

I know I'd already spoken about how I was finding things tough in another post, and I would have loved for those things I suggested to help myself to have worked. Some had helped, but at the time of writing my last post I was in the deepest of my stress levels, and doing those things didn't even enter my mind.

Did I share too much? Did I come across as narcissistic, seeking attention and wantying people to ask if I was ok? I hope not, that certainly wasn't my intention. I'm hoping it came across as I intended, an honest reflection of my feelings at the time. After all this blog is about my journey as a Personal Stylist and that journey is going to have downs as well as ups.

Yesterday was World Mental Heath Day, lots of people sharing things to get people talking about how they are feeling and if they are struggling to get help. Hopefully me writing these things down will also help other people going through similar things to realise that that they are not alone and to get whatever help they need, even if it's just a chat with a friend or a cuddle from someone. I've certainly found it easier talking to the people I love about my feelings, something I've not been very good at.

This week I've been trying my best not to look at the phone so much and to do more reading and listen to podcasts. I've just started listening to a great one called How to Fail with Elizabeth Day. It's a postive podcast about how your failures can lead to positive things or it can just be something to learn from. I'm only two episodes in, but so far I'm really enjoying it!

Yesterday was also a good day as I managed a very small run and spent quite a lot of time outside, both things that are always good for me.

Getting back to the styling, my friend had a great idea, I'm going to let me husband pick out my clothes for this week and document what he has picked out for me - eek! I have to wear whatever he has chosen for the whole day, this should be interesting!!!

 Big hugs to you all

The Toughest Week

So I usually post on a Sunday and I had something all written out, but after I got the hubby to check it over (like I usually do) he said it seemed a bit more random than my usual stuff. I think the reason for that was because I normally write about what's happened to me that week and this one was different, so I've scrapped it for now and written about what's really been going on. If you’ve read my blog from the start you’ll know that I lost my job at the beginning of lockdown, I believed I was unfairly dismissed and I’ve been dealing with the fallout from this since April last year. I had to to hire a solicitor, it went to ACAS (a kind of mediation service that you have to go through to try and resolve the issue) and then finally to tribunal, which I had over 2 days last week. It’s been a very tough 9+ months and I’ve documented some of my struggles on here, albeit without much detail. But the last few months and especially this last week have been the hardest. My anxie...

Wardrobe Edit - Forgot to post this!!

So this week (actaully early Sept as I completely forgot to post this blog) I did the wardrobe edit for a lovely new client, who wasn’t happy with her wardrobe at all and wanted to feel more confident in herself and what to wear. We went through all of the items in her wardrobe, getting her to try them on and discussed how the fit was or wasn’t working for her body shape. She had fallen into the trap of wearing baggy clothes to hide the parts she didn’t like, however this just gives the illusion of making you bigger than you are. Once I had pointed out what this was doing to her shape and how she looked, we went through the clothes so quickly as she now knew what to look for and we got rid of a LOT of clothes!! Knowing how to dress for your shape can make all the difference, you might think you are hiding your problem areas, but you could be making the area more obvious. By accentuating your best features you are already drawing attention away from the areas you feel less happy...

That Warm Fuzzy Feeling

I’ve always found immense joy in finding things that people love, shopping for the perfect gift for someone’s birthday or Christmas and the excitement of watching them open it and (hopefully) liking what I have bought them. This love of finding things for people was perfect for when I worked in retail. I worked in a beautiful jewellery shop (Tyler Jenkins in Swansea) which was such a great place to work, as they let me use my creative side by allowing me to design some of the displays and I ended up knowing what was in the whole store! If people came in looking for ideas of what to get someone, I would ask them a few questions about who the gift was for and go around the shop pulling different things out for them to look at, mostly it was items they hadn’t even noticed. I also worked in a clothes shop (selling the Bench, Hooch etc) in Cardiff, where the womenswear section was in the basement, so mostly you were on your own down there. When customers came downstairs, I couldn’t help c...
