Personal Styling: What’s Happening

As you may have noticed, for a while now I have not posted a lot on how my personal styling business is going. The truth is it’s been put on the back burner for a little while.

The previous couple of months have been difficult for me, I just couldn’t seem to concentrate on building my business when I was (and still am) dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety from my old job that I lost at the beginning of lockdown. That and the fact that I’ve been in a new job for a couple of months now, and while it is only part time, it’s every day (I miss having a day off in the week!) and I’ve recently upped my hours until Christmas. Who doesn't need extra cash at the moment!

I've also been wondering if now is the right time for this business, people aren't going out at the moment (man I miss going out!) and probably not spending any money either.

Writing this down, it all looks like excellent excuses/delay tacktics for not pushing on with the business, and I agree, but for me I know it's just not the right time. I know when I want to start again, the goal is in sight, but for now I'm happy posting my daily outfits on instragram and any little try ons I have, I hope you are too.

The Toughest Week

So I usually post on a Sunday and I had something all written out, but after I got the hubby to check it over (like I usually do) he said it seemed a bit more random than my usual stuff. I think the reason for that was because I normally write about what's happened to me that week and this one was different, so I've scrapped it for now and written about what's really been going on. If you’ve read my blog from the start you’ll know that I lost my job at the beginning of lockdown, I believed I was unfairly dismissed and I’ve been dealing with the fallout from this since April last year. I had to to hire a solicitor, it went to ACAS (a kind of mediation service that you have to go through to try and resolve the issue) and then finally to tribunal, which I had over 2 days last week. It’s been a very tough 9+ months and I’ve documented some of my struggles on here, albeit without much detail. But the last few months and especially this last week have been the hardest. My anxie...

Wardrobe Edit - Forgot to post this!!

So this week (actaully early Sept as I completely forgot to post this blog) I did the wardrobe edit for a lovely new client, who wasn’t happy with her wardrobe at all and wanted to feel more confident in herself and what to wear. We went through all of the items in her wardrobe, getting her to try them on and discussed how the fit was or wasn’t working for her body shape. She had fallen into the trap of wearing baggy clothes to hide the parts she didn’t like, however this just gives the illusion of making you bigger than you are. Once I had pointed out what this was doing to her shape and how she looked, we went through the clothes so quickly as she now knew what to look for and we got rid of a LOT of clothes!! Knowing how to dress for your shape can make all the difference, you might think you are hiding your problem areas, but you could be making the area more obvious. By accentuating your best features you are already drawing attention away from the areas you feel less happy...

That Warm Fuzzy Feeling

I’ve always found immense joy in finding things that people love, shopping for the perfect gift for someone’s birthday or Christmas and the excitement of watching them open it and (hopefully) liking what I have bought them. This love of finding things for people was perfect for when I worked in retail. I worked in a beautiful jewellery shop (Tyler Jenkins in Swansea) which was such a great place to work, as they let me use my creative side by allowing me to design some of the displays and I ended up knowing what was in the whole store! If people came in looking for ideas of what to get someone, I would ask them a few questions about who the gift was for and go around the shop pulling different things out for them to look at, mostly it was items they hadn’t even noticed. I also worked in a clothes shop (selling the Bench, Hooch etc) in Cardiff, where the womenswear section was in the basement, so mostly you were on your own down there. When customers came downstairs, I couldn’t help c...
