Ding Dong The Tribunal is Over - Now to Start my New Year!

If you've been following my blog you would have known that I lost my job at the start of the first lockdown. I couldn't really go into a lot of detail because it was going to tribunal (which I had early January), but now that is over and on Thursday I found out that I'd won!!!!!!!

I have to admit that after the tribunal, when the judge said he would defer his ruling, my confidence in the case slowly went down as the days went on. I was just so desperate to win, I couldn't let someone who'd always gotten their way by bullying, get away with treating people the way I had been treated.

Once I'd seen the ruling on Thursday, I was shaking for about an hour or more after. So much stress, worry and anxiety had been worth it to know that I was right to fight this and prove that they had been in the wrong. I'm proud of what I have done (feeling pretty Wonder Woman right now!), it's been the toughest thing I've ever had to deal with and I'm so thankful for all the support I received from family and friends. I have to admit, I do get a little smile on my face when I think about their reaction to the ruling.

I may go into a bit more detail about all of it another time, but for the moment I'm still decompressing the whole thing and can't really put into into coherent words what happened, they're just not flowing.  However, now that the whole thing is over I finally feel like I can start my New Year and focus on the things that I want too, without having that niggling thing in the back of my mind to worry and stress about.

Obviously I want to get back into Personal Styling, that's my main passion and the whole reason I started this blog. There's a course that I've wanted to do for a couple of years now and once my compensation money comes through I'll be booking myself on to it. I'm so excited!

I've also been getting into my reading, initially to take my mind off things, but I definitely want to carry on. Pre-kids I used to read mostly thrillers, but now I'm open to all sorts of books, so if you have any recommendations please send them my way.

Another thing that I've gotten back into recently is painting. You might not know but my background is actually art based. I studied Sculpture at University, but never developed it into any kind of art based career (one of my regrets). I've done the odd painting over the years, but since the kids I've hardly done anything. More recently though I've had a go at watercolours and I'm really enjoying it. Very much out of practice, but as they say, practice makes perfect!

Hope you all have a great week.

The Toughest Week

So I usually post on a Sunday and I had something all written out, but after I got the hubby to check it over (like I usually do) he said it seemed a bit more random than my usual stuff. I think the reason for that was because I normally write about what's happened to me that week and this one was different, so I've scrapped it for now and written about what's really been going on. If you’ve read my blog from the start you’ll know that I lost my job at the beginning of lockdown, I believed I was unfairly dismissed and I’ve been dealing with the fallout from this since April last year. I had to to hire a solicitor, it went to ACAS (a kind of mediation service that you have to go through to try and resolve the issue) and then finally to tribunal, which I had over 2 days last week. It’s been a very tough 9+ months and I’ve documented some of my struggles on here, albeit without much detail. But the last few months and especially this last week have been the hardest. My anxie...

Wardrobe Edit - Forgot to post this!!

So this week (actaully early Sept as I completely forgot to post this blog) I did the wardrobe edit for a lovely new client, who wasn’t happy with her wardrobe at all and wanted to feel more confident in herself and what to wear. We went through all of the items in her wardrobe, getting her to try them on and discussed how the fit was or wasn’t working for her body shape. She had fallen into the trap of wearing baggy clothes to hide the parts she didn’t like, however this just gives the illusion of making you bigger than you are. Once I had pointed out what this was doing to her shape and how she looked, we went through the clothes so quickly as she now knew what to look for and we got rid of a LOT of clothes!! Knowing how to dress for your shape can make all the difference, you might think you are hiding your problem areas, but you could be making the area more obvious. By accentuating your best features you are already drawing attention away from the areas you feel less happy...

That Warm Fuzzy Feeling

I’ve always found immense joy in finding things that people love, shopping for the perfect gift for someone’s birthday or Christmas and the excitement of watching them open it and (hopefully) liking what I have bought them. This love of finding things for people was perfect for when I worked in retail. I worked in a beautiful jewellery shop (Tyler Jenkins in Swansea) which was such a great place to work, as they let me use my creative side by allowing me to design some of the displays and I ended up knowing what was in the whole store! If people came in looking for ideas of what to get someone, I would ask them a few questions about who the gift was for and go around the shop pulling different things out for them to look at, mostly it was items they hadn’t even noticed. I also worked in a clothes shop (selling the Bench, Hooch etc) in Cardiff, where the womenswear section was in the basement, so mostly you were on your own down there. When customers came downstairs, I couldn’t help c...
