Influencer Style

Back to the style! This week I started a little idea of picking an influencer that I like/admire/covet their clothes and picked some outfits to try and recreate with what I have in my wardrobe.

To do this I would look through their photos to find something that I liked where I had at least one item similar and would adapt it from there. I have to admit it's been fairly easy, as it takes the pressure out of picking what to wear, as I just have to find a picture that I like and wear that outfit (or as close to it as I can get). There's also some great combinations that I'm really looking forward to trying!

A lot of the influencers I follow have a style that I aspire to or I think I aready have, in that way it's been easy for me and I've got so many outfits that I want to try. If you don't know you're style yet, this might be  great way of trying things out to see how it makes you feel. It could be that you're already following lots of fashion influencers, in which case I'm sure you can find something they already have that you could re-create yourself. However, if you're not sure you can always look on instragram for hastags of items that you like that are already in you wardrobe, for example brenton top, flared jeans or long dress.

The other reason for doing this was to make the most of my wardrobe and what I already have. I've spoken before about falling for the trap of 'needing to buy', a trap I have fallen into many a time! I'm often drawn to items that are similar to what I already own, justifying it with the fact that a small detail might be different. Or I pick something that ultimately won't stand the test of time, too fashion that isn't part of my normal style. If I do buy something now, I want to make sure that it goes with my current wardrobe and I can make a fair few outfits from it.

I'm also going to try and use ebay more before looking to the usual websites for things that I would like, but I'm going to try and put a hold on the spending. If there is something I like, I'm going to give it the 'month' test. If I still want it after a month then I can think about purchasing it. This is going to be tough I'm sure, but I going to give it my best.

Wish me luck!

The Toughest Week

So I usually post on a Sunday and I had something all written out, but after I got the hubby to check it over (like I usually do) he said it seemed a bit more random than my usual stuff. I think the reason for that was because I normally write about what's happened to me that week and this one was different, so I've scrapped it for now and written about what's really been going on. If you’ve read my blog from the start you’ll know that I lost my job at the beginning of lockdown, I believed I was unfairly dismissed and I’ve been dealing with the fallout from this since April last year. I had to to hire a solicitor, it went to ACAS (a kind of mediation service that you have to go through to try and resolve the issue) and then finally to tribunal, which I had over 2 days last week. It’s been a very tough 9+ months and I’ve documented some of my struggles on here, albeit without much detail. But the last few months and especially this last week have been the hardest. My anxie...

Wardrobe Edit - Forgot to post this!!

So this week (actaully early Sept as I completely forgot to post this blog) I did the wardrobe edit for a lovely new client, who wasn’t happy with her wardrobe at all and wanted to feel more confident in herself and what to wear. We went through all of the items in her wardrobe, getting her to try them on and discussed how the fit was or wasn’t working for her body shape. She had fallen into the trap of wearing baggy clothes to hide the parts she didn’t like, however this just gives the illusion of making you bigger than you are. Once I had pointed out what this was doing to her shape and how she looked, we went through the clothes so quickly as she now knew what to look for and we got rid of a LOT of clothes!! Knowing how to dress for your shape can make all the difference, you might think you are hiding your problem areas, but you could be making the area more obvious. By accentuating your best features you are already drawing attention away from the areas you feel less happy...

That Warm Fuzzy Feeling

I’ve always found immense joy in finding things that people love, shopping for the perfect gift for someone’s birthday or Christmas and the excitement of watching them open it and (hopefully) liking what I have bought them. This love of finding things for people was perfect for when I worked in retail. I worked in a beautiful jewellery shop (Tyler Jenkins in Swansea) which was such a great place to work, as they let me use my creative side by allowing me to design some of the displays and I ended up knowing what was in the whole store! If people came in looking for ideas of what to get someone, I would ask them a few questions about who the gift was for and go around the shop pulling different things out for them to look at, mostly it was items they hadn’t even noticed. I also worked in a clothes shop (selling the Bench, Hooch etc) in Cardiff, where the womenswear section was in the basement, so mostly you were on your own down there. When customers came downstairs, I couldn’t help c...
