My First Wardrobe Edit - Eek!

This is the face of someone who has done their very first wardrobe edit!

The person in question was a mum friend from school who had seen my offer of free styling for my first few guinea pigs a couple of weeks ago.

A week or so before the edit, I asked her to look at people on Instagram/Pintrest/famous people, who’s style she aspired to, so I could get an idea of what she liked and didn’t like. I also did some of my own homework and wrote some notes on different body types and skin tones, so I felt a little more prepared.

On the day I was the perfect combination of excited and scared and, I have to admit, when I was driving there I had no idea how I was going to do the actual wardrobe edit! In my usual style I went with winging it 😉

It made it a lot easier that my first client was a friend, as we were able to have a chat and a catch up beforehand. After that we discussed the style that she liked by going through what she had prepared so I had a better understanding of what she wanted to achieve and her style goal.

Lots of items were put in the ‘get rid of’ pile and the things she wanted to keep, she tried on and we discussed whether it suited her body shape and colouring. Needless to say a few more things went in the ‘get rid of’ pile, but with what we had we put together some outfits that made her feel a lot happier, less like a ‘frumpy mum’ and more herself again. Also as she was going out that night, we also put together a smart casual outfit with her favourite skirt.

I left her house with such an amazing feeling for two reasons, one that I was able to actually do the wardrobe edit and formulate a plan of action as we went along and second, that the client was so happy with the outfit options we had made and I could visible see she was more confident in her clothes and style.

Next job is putting together options of what I thought was missing from her wardrobe to give her more options of what to wear. It’s all a new learning experience for me and I’m loving every minute of it!!

The Toughest Week

So I usually post on a Sunday and I had something all written out, but after I got the hubby to check it over (like I usually do) he said it seemed a bit more random than my usual stuff. I think the reason for that was because I normally write about what's happened to me that week and this one was different, so I've scrapped it for now and written about what's really been going on. If you’ve read my blog from the start you’ll know that I lost my job at the beginning of lockdown, I believed I was unfairly dismissed and I’ve been dealing with the fallout from this since April last year. I had to to hire a solicitor, it went to ACAS (a kind of mediation service that you have to go through to try and resolve the issue) and then finally to tribunal, which I had over 2 days last week. It’s been a very tough 9+ months and I’ve documented some of my struggles on here, albeit without much detail. But the last few months and especially this last week have been the hardest. My anxie...

Wardrobe Edit - Forgot to post this!!

So this week (actaully early Sept as I completely forgot to post this blog) I did the wardrobe edit for a lovely new client, who wasn’t happy with her wardrobe at all and wanted to feel more confident in herself and what to wear. We went through all of the items in her wardrobe, getting her to try them on and discussed how the fit was or wasn’t working for her body shape. She had fallen into the trap of wearing baggy clothes to hide the parts she didn’t like, however this just gives the illusion of making you bigger than you are. Once I had pointed out what this was doing to her shape and how she looked, we went through the clothes so quickly as she now knew what to look for and we got rid of a LOT of clothes!! Knowing how to dress for your shape can make all the difference, you might think you are hiding your problem areas, but you could be making the area more obvious. By accentuating your best features you are already drawing attention away from the areas you feel less happy...

That Warm Fuzzy Feeling

I’ve always found immense joy in finding things that people love, shopping for the perfect gift for someone’s birthday or Christmas and the excitement of watching them open it and (hopefully) liking what I have bought them. This love of finding things for people was perfect for when I worked in retail. I worked in a beautiful jewellery shop (Tyler Jenkins in Swansea) which was such a great place to work, as they let me use my creative side by allowing me to design some of the displays and I ended up knowing what was in the whole store! If people came in looking for ideas of what to get someone, I would ask them a few questions about who the gift was for and go around the shop pulling different things out for them to look at, mostly it was items they hadn’t even noticed. I also worked in a clothes shop (selling the Bench, Hooch etc) in Cardiff, where the womenswear section was in the basement, so mostly you were on your own down there. When customers came downstairs, I couldn’t help c...
